Kitchen Taps and Mixers for your perfect kitchen
Choosing the right kitchen tap for your newly designed kitchen or even to refresh an old kitchen is one of the most important factors.
There are so many types of Kitchen Taps to choose from that it can be very confusing at first look.. There are traditional type washer based taps, ceramic disc based taps, and kitchen mixer taps, ½ and ¼ turn taps as well as many other types including high and low pressure taps. I’ll try and go through some of the basics that you need to know when choosing your new Kitchen Taps.
High and Low Pressure Taps
It’s very important that you know what type of water system you have in your household. If you have a very low pressure gravity fed system then high pressure mixer taps simply won’t be suitable and more than likely you will find that either the Hot water will dribble out or in some extreme cases not come out at all. The box of the tap will tell you if it is suitable for low pressure systems. However you can fix the pressure problem on your system on a gravity fed water system by use of an inline pump but please be aware this will add a considerable cost to the finished costs. However sometimes there is no other choice if you wish to achieve that designer kitchen look.
Kitchen Mixer Taps
There are all different types of kitchen taps and just one of which is the kitchen mixer taps. Mixer taps usually come with one lever and allow the user to mixer the hot and cold water that comes out of the spout together to provide the correct temperature as well as the desired pressure in to the kitchen sink or basin. Occasionally they have 2 leavers but the result is the same basically meaning Kitchen mixer taps refer to the mixing of water of two different temperatures that come out of the singular spout.
Types of material’s kitchen taps are made from
There are lots
of different types of kitchen taps made from a huge variety of materials, such as brass or chromed brass or even stainless steel. Over the years we have seen lots of different materials used such as glass or porcelain kitchen taps I’m sure that you will find something that is just right for your perfect kitchen
Wall mounted or deck mounted kitchen taps
Another thing to consider when choosing your kitchen taps is whether you want to mount the tap on a worktop or parallel surface or if you want to mount the taps on the wall. Sometimes the wall mounted taps can look more aesthetically pleasing however please be aware that you would usually need the water pipes in the wall and sometimes it’s just not cost effective unless you are completely renovating or building from new.
Ceramic Discs or Washer type Kitchen Taps
Another thing to consider when choosing your kitchen tap is whether you have ceramic disc type or the traditional washer type kitchen taps. The newer ceramic cartridge type of taps are basically a sealed cartridge with several small ceramic discs inside that allow water to pass when the leaver on the tap is moved more traditional taps have a washer inside the screw based value. It’s very important that when you buy a new Tap that you make sure the ceramic cartridges are readily available for your type of tap as sometimes the cheaper taps use irregular sizes and when they go the only option is to replace the whole kitchen tap.
If you follow the above advice I’m sure you will find the perfect kitchen taps to make the most of your dream kitchen environment also be sure to check our review section for reviews on Blanco Taps as well as other leading Kitchen tap brands.
